I Love Karma

Last night was Flow’s 25th birthday party.  Longstroke, Thang, and a couple of other of his friends were there, but Chronic wasn’t because he’s in rehab again.  It started at the Beer House, and continued at Japanika, but after that, I had to go to the Bear for a kind of non date.

When I got there, I saw Banana, and we talked awhile before the non date, Fender showed up.  I met Fender a few days ago at Candies, while hanging out with Kahuna.  We had a nice conversation while I was buying cigarettes before heading to Irish House with Kahuna.  Afterwards, when we were on our way back, a couple of teenage hoes conned Kahuna into getting some cigarettes for them.

Fender won my attention at that point by helping me to mercilessly shame Kahuna for letting himself get suckered so badly in a time when such things can get you easily arrested in the Carmel.  Even back when they wouldn’t, because the culture was to help teenagers live it up because they were going into the army at 18, nobody in their right mind did anything for hoe type girls.  The sexual harassment laws here are such that some of them would use you and then turn around and say you molested them for fun.  So junior hoes are given a wide berth by the sane.

During last night’s non date, I got the life story.  Fender is 33 but wise beyond his years.  He’s mixed French and Libyan.  He’s been in two major car accidents in his lifetime, the last of which broke his back and put him in a wheelchair for some years.  He has been walking again for only four months.  He has been married twice, and has five children.

He seems very independent, and we share opinions on many things, but he’s still Jewish and his dad is Libyan.  Experience has taught me that I shouldn’t get my hopes up.  Since my filters preclude my getting used, it is most likely that I’ll be friend-zoned, which is much more preferable to being told I’m not good enough because of my ethnicity.

He wants to meet for coffee tonight, and since this is the third contact, it’ll be time to lay the cards on the table.  We’ll see how it goes.
