Today I built my first “crazy ex hosted” site, Arden’s Web. That’s where I basically stalk someone’s social media and curate posts for their website using this as source material. It’s like having an obsessive fan, but you pay me to do that.
I thought of this because it seems that almost nobody interesting knows how to build a website anymore, but all of them really hate having to compete with ads and domestic terrorists. On their own site, they control the content and who they are boosting. They won’t end up accidentally promoting nazis just because they made a post about pretzels or something.
People are starting to figure out that the average person posting for the sake of keeping in touch with friends, family, and likeminded people, are not really getting the views they hope they will. The algorithm determines what will be on someone’s timeline not by the priority of who they’re closest to or interact with the most, but what will be the best window dressing for their ads. People are exposed to all sorts that they didn’t want to see, and having to share space with things they definitely do not approve of.
Social media is dying because the drama drives profits, so they are incentivized to hype the worst of humanity. From fake spirituality to fascism. I think because of the lack of knowledge on how to roll one’s own web presence, people are dependent on social media sites, but they don’t enjoy that dependency. So I’m trying to be a solution to this problem. I’d like to get clients, but I am only one person. Inevitably other webmasters will steal this idea and figure out a way to make it cheaper and require less time investment. In the end though, it will break the dependency. I know Google will be happy because they’ll be where people go to find content they’re interested in again.
Anyway, have a look at the site, and let me know how you like it. If you want one, you can hire me.
