Cancel Culture? Really?

Celebrities and “influencers” should stop whining about cancel culture.

Whining about cancel culture is like me, as a human being living on the planet Earth, especially as a witch, whining about the fact that burning incense turns it to ashes.

If your livelihood depends on some people liking you and trusting your art to bring them joy or enhance their lives, and you disrespect them or a critical proportion of them, then you are shitting on your own plate. Getting cancelled is the natural result of this. Complaining about it means you want the option of shitting on your plate without tasting the shit. You think people owe you their continued attention or loyalty because you had it when they didn’t know you hate or disrespect them. They’re supposed to ignore that new information or clarification and keep paying you. So it’s a double disrespect because you view them as subhuman attention objects who should keep blindly feeding you fandom and funding regardless of how you treat them.

If it is true that someone had been misinterpreted or mistakenly canceled, and we are at a point where enough people would buy the misinformation to successfully screw you, do you even want those people’s positive attention? Someone who didn’t have an overgrown sense of entitlement would not. They would simply tell their truth clearly and then focus on the people who still want what they have to offer.

The internet is a chaotic place sometimes. Maybe I’m overly desensitized to how wild this world can be. I’ve never been that famous, and don’t know how I would feel if I was. Is it something that has to change one into an addict who sees humans as milligrams of a drug instead of living breathing souls one is interacting with? Apparently not since there are plenty of famous and well known people out there who are not complaining about cancel culture. Kudos to them. The ones whose work I enjoy among them, I will continue to until they complain about people exercising their right to choose. It’s not something to take for granted.
