This Is Where It Ends

an invitation once declined
will not be extended again
we met as strangers and i’m happy with this
no need to part as friends

i’m getting out clean
and maybe it seems a little mean
to you

but when you’ve seen the things
these walls have seen
and when you’ve screamed the screams
of broken dreams

you’ll tell me
i get you

every once in awhile one needs
to let the instincts do what they do
every once in awhile one needs
to not hear the lie that will never be true

i’m just happy
you don’t want to eat my soul
don’t want to take my money
don’t see me as too old
to be desirable just on my own
without the need for perks
or benefits
you’re just being benevolent

we fucked now get the fuck out

but thank you
for not being a monster

or at least not the one you think you are
you’re not trainwreck, just a stalling car
upon whose hood burned out a falling star

you decided what you want to be
and i then decided to wholeheartedly agree

every once in awhile
the bottle needs a little shake
the burrow needs to hide a snake
because that’s what it was made for
nothing more
