If you’re newly disabled from COVID, please heed my warning: take a step back and understand this new reality before advocating. pic.twitter.com/EPBPeWc3Rg

We’re happy for the fresh voices in this struggle, but you have to be aware of just what the struggle is. Once you become disabled, non disabled people having been informed by societal ableism, don’t take you as seriously as they should. Also, if you are in the process of recovery and advocating for recovery specific assistance and accommodation, they may encourage you to forget or themselves forget that not everyone gets “better”. So you have to make sure that you don’t forget and that you continue to include the issues of people who’ve been or may be permanently disabled. So before you get out there pushing, take some counsel from those who’ve been at this awhile.
